The South Korean won or the Korean Republic won (KRW) is the official currency of South Korea. “Won” means “round” in Korean, the same as “yuan” in China or “yen” in Japan, and refers to the circular shape of the coins. Round coins were not originally used in these territories. They were introduced by Europeans and were initially represented by Spanish and Mexican silver coins.
Unfortunately, gambling is highly restricted in South Korea. There is only one legal casino in the country where Korean citizens are allowed to play – the Kangwon Land Casino & Hotel. Also, there are about twenty land-based casinos open only for tourists. Korean citizens can be fined a significant penalty if caught illegal gambling. But the main target for the government’s prosecution is those who run gambling businesses. At the same time, South Korea legalized offline sports betting shops, called Toto in Asia, with low betting limits (up to about $100). Online casinos and sports wagering are banned with no exclusions. Still, South Koreans can freely gamble at foreign online casinos through VPN or without it. Moreover, depositing and withdrawing Korean won in online casinos & betting shops is easy, quick and secure. KRW gamblers can use different global payment methods with no problems and no risks.
